Job Description

Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Services

General Summary: To provide specialized services necessary to enable students with disabilities to perform educational tasks as independently as possible.

Essential Responsibilities:

Works with multi-disciplinary evaluation team to perform complete and accurate evaluations of students. (Including but not limited to: Developmental levels/sensory-motor development, gross and fine motor functioning, self-care skills, positioning/transfers/mobility, adaptive devices, assists in vocational and prevocational planning when appropriate).

Understands the referral and evaluation process; uses appropriate evaluative instruments and skills to conduct student evaluations; writes reports that communicate student strengths and needs; and interprets findings to parents and school staff.

Works with multi-disciplinary team and case conference committee to develop IEP's with appropriate therapy outcomes designed to develop or improve student's ability to perform tasks in the educational environment.

Maintains appropriate records (i.e. reports, progress notes, home/school programs, inventory); communicates with school personnel and families regarding planned intervention and student progress; makes recommendations and/or provides adapted materials, adaptive equipment, or adapting the educational environment to meet a student's needs; an identifies realistic and relevant treatment objectives.

Consults with parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, members of multidisciplinary team, other related services personnel, outside medical personnel who impact a child's functioning at school. Shares ideas, materials and pertinent information regarding activities which can assist in meeting student goals; is prepared for meetings; assists others in understanding the role of therapy in the educational setting; and follows up as appropriate.

Pursues professional growth activities.

Remains current on service delivery strategies; and is knowledgeable about policy and procedure regarding occupational therapy; maintains current credentials; pursues continuing education opportunities; and participates in workshops, in-services and conferences to further develop expertise.

Supervises certified/licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Qualifications

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy (minimum)

Certification or Licensure - Valid Occupational Therapist Licensure, registration or certification as required by Indiana law or regulation.

Experience - Working with pediatric and youth population.

Knowledge - Occupational therapy series in accordance with AOTA standards, policies, and guidelines and state and federal requirements relevant to practice and service delivery.

Full Time: 195 days
