QUALIFICATIONS
A master's degree or any combination equivalent to a master's degree in the area of audiology from an accredited program in audiology/communication sciences and disorders, and all other requirements as set forth in KRS334A.050.
Valid audiology license, issued by the Kentucky Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Additional Speech-language pathology assistant license-preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Educational Audiologist supports students with hearing difficulties in an educational setting. The audiologist is guided by best practices and codes of ethics that are outlined by his or her professional organizations.
DISTRICT AND SCHOOL PRIORITY ALIGNMENT
Align actions with district and school values and core priorities.
Evaluated based on the efficacy of aligned actions.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team for the purpose of meeting the hearing needs of children and students ages 0-21
Provides educationally relevant interpretation of audiologic findings and make recommendations for interpreters/translators.
Provides direct intervention services in audiologic rehabilitation in collaboration with the speech-language pathologist/classroom teacher.
Collaborates with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs
Collaborates and consults with community audiologists and physicians regarding the audiologic and educational management of students with hearing loss
Provide consulting services on the selection, purchase, installation, maintenance, calibration, inspection, and use of audiologic equipment.
Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
Provide training about hearing, hearing loss, and other auditory disorders for school personnel, students, and parents to facilitate a better understanding of the impact of auditory impairments on language, learning, literacy, and social development.
Assist in implementing collaborative activities with other professionals.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
Operate office equipment, as appropriate.
Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance.
Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Principles and techniques of audiology.
State and federal laws and regulations regarding special education records, due process, and service provision.
Local school district policies and procedures.
State laws and regulations governing the practice of audiology and speech-language pathology.
Kentucky Eligibility Guidelines for Communication Disabilities.
Communicate and work effectively with the families of students with disabilities.
Work collaboratively with other professionals.
Maintain student records and prepare reports as specified by the District.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Remain current concerning knowledge of therapeutic and special issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.
