Good Will Hinckleys Glenn Stratton Learning Center (GSLC) is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Speech Therapist to provide school-based speech therapy services to students with behavioral, emotional, developmental, and mental health needs within a therapeutic educational setting.
Job Summary:
This position supports students receiving Section 65 Behavioral Health Day Treatment and Section 28 services through direct and consultative Speech services aligned with students IEPs. Services may be provided within GSLC and partnering and partnering school districts. The Speech Therapist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community providers to support students functional, sensory, self-regulation, and educational success.
This position is an academic schedule of 185 school days + 15 days for Extended School Year (ESY) for a total of 200 days. The hours are Monday Friday from 7:30am 3:30pm.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree from an accredited Speech-Language Therapy program, required.
- Current Maine Speech-Language Therapist licensure required.
- Experience working with children and adolescents in school-based, therapeutic, behavioral health, or special education settings preferred.
- Experience supporting students with emotional, behavioral, sensory, development, and mental health needs preferred.
- Knowledge of special education law, IEP processes, and related service requirements preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, consultation, organizational, and relationship building skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across multiple educational settings.
- Ability to respond to crisis situations calmly, professionally, and therapeutically.
- Proficiency with electronic documentation systems, billing practices, and timely recordkeeping.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and successful completion of required background and pre-employment screenings required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide direct speech therapy services in accordance with students IEP goals and individualized treatment plans.
- Conduct evaluations, assessments, screenings, and progress monitoring to determine student needs and support educational participation and success.
- Develop measurable IEP goals, intervention strategies, and recommendations addressing sensory processing, self-regulation, executive functioning, fine motor, adaptive, and social-emotional needs.
- Collaborate with educators, clinicians, behavioral health staff, families, outside providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support student progress across educational settings.
- Deliver services within GSLC, partnering public school districts, and other assigned educational or community-based environments while adapting to varying school procedures and team structures.
- Participate in IEP meetings, treatment team meetings, behavioral planning, and case consultations.
- Utilize trauma-informed strengthens-based, and student-centered practices when supporting students and staff.
- Provide consultation, modeling, and classroom strategies to support sensory regulation and student participation.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation, billing, progress notes, and electronic health records in accordance with organizational policies and state and federal regulations.
- Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and a safe learning and working environment.
- Report all incidents of work-related accident/illness within 24 hours; maintain a safe work environment; ensure that a safe environment is maintained in the workplace by adhering to all safety rules and requirements (Safety Policies) and report any safety hazards to immediate supervisor.
- Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.
