Responsible for providing emergency care for acutely ill neonatal and pediatric patients in collaboration with the medical team. This position practices in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards of the organization and functions within the guidelines of the Transport program protocols. Additionally, this role provides family-centered care, including psychosocial support, education, and transfer planning in conjunction with referral staff. In addition, this position maintains effective communication with referral staff and families. Additionally, this role participates in educating staff from referring facilities through informal teaching and planned educational classes and/or conferences. This position actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all.

  • Performs hemodynamic procedures such as arterial cannulation, assembly, calibration, maintenance, CVP/pulmonary artery catheter insertion, calibration, maintenance, cardiac output, and hemodynamic/cardiopulmonary profiles.
  • Ensures transport supplies and equipment are restocked and functional, documents and posts/charges for procedures accurately, assists with clinical instruction, practices standard precautions, enforces safety regulations, and provides a timely response time for all transports as per quality metrics.
  • Transports neonatal patients to nursery or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) safely and efficiently.
  • Completes appropriate transport training regimen and supervised orientation transports as directed by the Departments of EMS Ground and Flight Medicine and/or Respiratory Care.
  • Utilizes Medivac-Aircraft/Vehicular Dynamics effectively during transport. Initiates process improvement ideas proactively and assists with clinical instruction and precepting.
  • Documents and charges for procedures accurately, thoroughly, and within the timeframe set by unit policy.
  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including ABG puncture and analysis, medicated aerosol therapies, bronchial hygiene therapies, lung expansion therapies, routine oxygen delivery, intubation, airway management, suctioning, conventional ventilator management, HFV, nitric oxide, and CPR during Code Blue emergencies.
  • Performs airway maintenance, including manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, intubations/extubations, tracheostomy insertions and changes, bronchoscopy assistance, airway suctioning, and procedural respiratory support.
  • Utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, chart review, and multidisciplinary team collaboration to determine therapy efficacy.
  • Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery per protocol.
  • Obtains, analyzes, and reports blood gases and co-oximetry findings, and performs quality controls as needed.
  • Initiates, maintains, transports, and monitors mechanical ventilators, including conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation and transport ventilation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:
Associate [Required]

Field of Study:
in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science

Work Experience:
1+ pediatric critical care experience [Required]
1+ requires a minimum of 2,000 hours of neonatal icu experience (per florida state rule 64j) [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:
State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Required] OR NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Required]
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) [Required]
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Cert (PALS) [Required]
Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Required]
Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT) [Preferred]
