In accordance with a physician's order, the Occupational Therapist assesses, evaluates, plans, and carries out occupational therapy programs to restore maximum reasonable function and to minimize disability following disease, injury, or genetically acquired disabilities. The Occupational Therapist helps patients achieve their reasonable maximum level of function and to cope with their limitation(s).
Your role will include:
Evaluating each patients functional abilities and needs, then developing individualized therapy plans in coordination with physicians and the care team.
Delivering skilled, evidence-based interventions that promote healing, independence, and quality of life through purposeful, compassionate care.
Monitoring patient progress, adjusting plans as needed, and ensuring thorough, timely documentation that reflects quality outcomes.
Educating patients and families to build understanding, confidence, and engagement throughout recovery and beyond.
Collaborating with interdisciplinary partners to ensure seamless transitions of care, safe environments, and exceptional patient experiences.
Leading by exampleproviding guidance to therapy assistants or students and upholding HCA Healthcares mission, values, and commitment to excellence.
Administers clinical evaluations and plans appropriate treatment programs.
Adapts conventional Occupational Therapy techniques to meet the age-appropriate need of each patient along with other specific needs based on his/her mental, physical, and emotional status.
Establishes, implements, and modifies treatment plans and participates in discharge planning.
Completes documentation in accordance with Rehabilitation Medicine policy and procedures.
Participates in discharge planning with related health professionals such as Social Services, M.D.'s, and other Rehab personnel. Provides recommendations based on observed evaluation and progress of patients to ensure safe and appropriate discharges.
Instructs patients in proper use of adaptive equipment such and ensures that all persons involved understand instructions.
Provides education to related health professionals and/or the public in regard to Occupational Therapy techniques, body mechanics, and adaptive equipment.
Supervise and train Occupational Therapy students as requested.
Adheres to hospital-wide and department-specific policies and procedures.
Assists with Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement, inventory control, orientation of new employees, billing procedures, monthly statistical computations and payroll as required by Director.
Performs other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
BS or MS in Occupational Therapy Certification
BLS certification through American Red Cross (AHA and military certifications accepted) required.
Licensure:
- Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Experience:
Proficient in basic ortho/neuro/medical evaluation and treatment skills.
Must be receptive to patient education processes and creative in planning, teaching and setting goals for patients and students (as applicable).
Must possess good oral and written communication skills and proficiency in documentation.
