Job Goal(s):
The primary job goal of the Physical Therapist is to assist students to maximize their developmental potential. The Physical Therapist organizes a treatment approach supporting physical development and utilizes exercise, positioning, ambulation training, and corrective and assistive devices to promote the developmental processes that underlie academic
learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Degree granted by an accredited physical therapy program required
Certification:
Michigan approval as a registered physical therapist required
Work Experience:
Previous experience as a physical therapist working with children is preferred
Skills:
Knowledge of adaptive equipment and its impact on functional mobility and participation
Understanding of normal childhood growth and developmental milestones
Experience conducting developmental assessments and interpreting findings
Knowledge of therapy techniques and interventions for children with developmental disabilities
Strong clinical observation, documentation, and patient assessment skills
Understanding of physical deformities related to congenital and acquired disorders
Knowledge of range of motion assessment, muscle testing, positioning, and strengthening techniques
Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans in a center-based setting
Experience collaborating with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams
Ability to support children in local/community and center-based programming environments
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Essential Job Functions:
Complete comprehensive evaluation/report of students in response to a special education referral.
Participate in educational planning including: working in early childhood programs, educating families, administering home programs, and completing IEPs and IFSPs.
Provide services to students as assigned on the IEP or IFSP.
Effectively communicate, consult and team with parents, staff, agencies and others.
Perform appropriate action/report in response to ROCS referrals of special education students.
Keep local schools informed of the status of referrals and services.
Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
Valid driver's license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
