Qualifications:

Degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited institution

Valid Speech Language Pathologist license from the Arizona Department of Health Services

Valid Arizona Department of Education Speech Language Pathologist Certificate

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card

Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred

One (1) year clinical experience required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of major theories, treatment procedures, and research relevant to providing speech language therapy services for children with disabilities.

Knowledge of diagnostic materials, interpretation, and reporting in regards to students with special needs related to educational performance.

Knowledge of disabling conditions that occur before and after birth and their effects on students with special needs related to educational performance.

Knowledge of the educational system and its critical components including federal and state regulations and ethical/legal responsibilities applying to occupational therapists in the educational setting.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.

Ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality.

Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.

Knowledge of district procedures and Board policies.

Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.

Skills in time management.

Demonstrated general proficiency in compute rprograms including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Screens students for speech and language disorders including referred kindergartners, new students within the first 45 days of school that do not have sufficient records, and others that are referred.

Conducts in-depth diagnostic evaluations when indicated by screening results, by referral from other school personnel or outside source, and at parent request.

Prepares Speech-Language Evaluation Report for each student evaluated.

Chairs Child Study Team committee meetings involving speech-language referrals to determine appropriate action.

Monitors the placement and progress of students receiving speech-language services.

Conducts re-evaluations of speech-language impaired students within three years of the date of the previous evaluation.

Chairs multidisciplinary evaluation conferences for speech-language only placements.

Develops and implements an Individual Education Program (IEP) for each student in need of speech-language services when initially placed and for the annual review of each student.

Maintains confidential files for students participating in speech-language programs.

Provides individual, small group or in-class therapy for students with speech-language impairments.

Serves as a resource consultant to other school professionals, parents, and outside agencies.

Supervises Speech Technicians through indirect and direct observations.

Provides ongoing training for Speech Technicians.

Attends meetings as Local Education Agency (LEA) Representative.
