Under the clinical supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant administers Occupational Therapy treatments to patients. Provides assistance to the Occupational Therapist by supplying objective measures to be utilized by the Occupational Therapist in evaluation of patients level of function and determination of treatment strategies. May work in an Inpatient, Outpatient, Home Care, Skilled Nursing, or Assisted Living environment.
Assists the Occupational Therapist with aspects of clinical observation of patient by performing delegated duties and supplying objective measures to be utilized by the Occupational Therapist in evaluation of patients level of function and determination of treatment goals and plans in the areas of activities of daily living, leisure/play, and productivity/work. Recognizes physiological and age related changes in the patient. Consults with the Occupational Therapist and other Health Care Team members.
Under the clinical supervision of the Occupational Therapist and as delegated by the Occupational Therapist, perform therapeutic techniques that are appropriate to patients needs and medical status. Implement treatment plan as provided by the Occupational Therapist and deliver patient care by using therapeutic techniques that support every day activities including but not limited to fine motor skills, exercises to improve gross motor skills, and techniques to support and to maximize function in the areas of daily living, leisure/recreation, and productivity/work. Communicate patient progress to the Occupational Therapist.
Provides patient and caregiver education regarding treatment, precautions, and equipment use as delegated by the Occupational Therapist.
Completes all required documentation including but not limited to: care plan and goals, patient status and progress, visits, patient discharge summary, and patient care transition plan and summary.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
Associates Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Current State of CT Occupational Therapy Assistant license required
Current NBCOT COTA Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS)
(BLS upon hire or within 30 days of hire: varies by facility)
For Home Care Only: Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required
