Shift differentials under the OFNHP are currently as follows:

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps individuals with COPD manage their disease and improve their quality of life. Wide ranges of disciplines combined to provide patients with a broad base of education and support. The pulmonary rehabilitation program also includes a gentle progression in the gym focused on reconditioning the body.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory assessment, support, treatment education and/or diagnostic testing while applying standards for professional respiratory practices in the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Conducts initial assessment of patients referred for pulmonary rehabilitation and evaluates and reviews patient history, current status and eligibility for pulmonary rehabilitation.

Coaches and educates patients on the use of medical therapies as prescribed by the patients provider.

Assess and monitors cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients progress and outcomes.

Conducts and evaluates progress of patient education and training sessions.

Provides in-services to other departments and physician clinics as needed.

Coordinates with exercise specialists and other providers to develop individualized treatment plans and performs case management.

Maintains and adheres to all documentation and guideline requirements for ACCVPR accreditation, Joint Commission and CMS requirements. Also assists in following the clinical guidelines set by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association for Cardiopulmonary Rehab Programs and St. Charles Health System.

Facilitates timely program admittance and participation for the pulmonary rehabilitation patient in accordance with the goals of the physician and the St. Charles Health System cardiopulmonary program care mission.

Develop in collaboration with the patient an at home wellness program to promote improved lifestyle changes.

EDUCATION:

Required : As required for Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure/certification.

Preferred : Bachelors degree in related field. Specialized training in Cardiac and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required : Current Respiratory Therapist licensure with the Oregon Health Licensing office. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS within 90 days of hire.

Preferred : Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certificate from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Asthma Educator Specialist (A E-C) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

EXPERIENCE:

Required : Thorough knowledge/skills in the concepts of pulmonary care and respiratory therapy.

Preferred : Two (2) years Respiratory Therapy experience. One (1) year of pulmonary rehabilitation experience.

SKILLS:

General:

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Access), database management, and document preparation.

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System.

Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within St. Charles Health System and external customers/clients/potential employees

Strong team working and collaborative skills.

Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Attention to detail.

Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.

Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Basic to intermediate ability and experience in computer applications, specifically electronic medical records system and MS Office.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/ pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%) : Climbing ladder/ step-stool , lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors

Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.

Never (0%) : Heat , cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.
