This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below: International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced Respiratory Therapist to treat, evaluate, and care for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders, implementing therapeutic techniques and manage respiratory equipment. They pray critical role in improving patients' respiratory health and quality of life through both acute and chronic care interventions.Key ResponsibilitiesEducate and treat people who are suffering from heart and lung problems. Collaborate with specialists in Pulmonary, Emergency Room (ER), and Intensive Care Units (ICU) in various aspects of clinical care of patients. Provide airway management and mechanical ventilation. Initiate and manage life support for people in ICUs and emergency departments. Stabilizie and monitor high risk patients being moved from hospital to hospital by ambulance. Administering inhaled drugs and medical gases such as mucolytics, bronchodilators, oxygen, and nitric oxide. Assist with intubation. Manage all ventilators in VAGLAHS and modes of mechanical ventilation. Provide Chest Physiotherapy (CPT), both manual and with the Vest System, including postural drainage. Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Respond to Rapid Response Calls. Set up Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP), and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP) systems. Provide patient and family education. Perform arterial puncture. Recognize the need for medical intervention if patient safety is at risk. Measure sleep cycles and stages of sleep, monitors, and records the following elements: Sleep patterns and stages Blood oxygen levels Body position Brain waves (EEG) Breathing rate Electrical activity of muscles Eye movements Leg movements Heart rate Perform Split-night diagnostic/therapeutics studies as described: perform polysomnogram during the first part of the night and then CPAP titration study during the 2nd half of the night if initial part of the study is consistent with obstructive sleep apnea. Perform full night polysomnogram. Perform sleep staging, defined as continuous recording of at least one (1) channel of Electroencephalogram (EEG), two (2) channels of Electrooculography (EOG) and one (1) channel of Electromyography (EMG) recording, following the rules of staging systematized by A. Rechstcahffen and A. Kales. Recording four (4) or more additional parameters of sleep, including at least airflow, oximetry, Electrocardiogram (EKG), and EMG. Maintain a technical log, manually and electronically of patient information including nocturnal patient activity, position and events. Perform electronic and manual scoring. Follow written policies, procedures and guidelines defining the response to findings disclosed during testing requiring medical evaluation and treatment, including the use of oxygen, and spilt night protocols. This list is non-exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake additional duties that are not specifically listed above. QualificationsBasic Requirements/Certifications: State Licensure from the Respiratory Board of California. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential Issued by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Registered Polysmonographic Technologist (RPSGT) Credential with the Board of Registered Polysmonographic Technologists (BRPT), or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Credential with the American Association of Sleep Medicine (AASM), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credentialed with the National Board for Respiratory Care. Two (2) years of RT experience with one (1) year experience in critical care (can be inclusive). Two (2) years Polysomnography (PSG) experience. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Education Required: Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy (RT) Program. Completion of an Accredited Sleep Program. Physical Requirements: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs. Other Special Qualifications: Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate. US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.
