Overview Evaluates patients and helps them improve basic motor functions and reasoning abilities, but also compensate for permanent loss of function by teaching them to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. These patients may have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally or emotionally disabling. May also assist patients in selecting appropriate adaptive equipment and assistive devices. Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association and licensed by the State of Arkansas. Responsibilities Maintains accountability to the Director of Rehab Services Provides input to the director regarding goals, plans, needs, new programs, improvements and methods to accomplish Exhibits knowledge of and complies with all state and federal regulations. Assists the director in operational oversight of the department Performs preparatory data gathering prior to initial patient contact Performs appropriate assessments including history, subjective and objective measurements and records this on the day evaluation Involves the patient and/or family in setting therapeutic goals Formulates a treatment plan including frequency and duration Administers or directs the treatment session monitoring the patients response Modifies the plan of care based on re-assessment Properly maintains the physical therapy clinical record, charting and charges Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly Teaches patients proper exercise techniques and use of equipment Develops home programs that are relevant and can be accomplished Plans for discharge and completes discharge summary Communicates clearly to physician and staff written and oral Confers with surgeon regarding special precautions and goals Remains accessible to the physician for consultation Delegates appropriate parts of the treatment program to the support staff providing supervision as appropriate Organize a work schedule allowing appropriate time for preparation Demonstrates the ability to handle complex cases Adheres to department productivity statistic Demonstrates ability to be flexible yet organized and handle stress appropriately Enters correct information on the daily tally sheet Maintains good relationships within the departments for the patients benefit Coordinates treatment time with other departments for the patient's benefit Employee is cooperative in modifications of schedules and / or call-ins Qualifications Education: Bachelors or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school Current Arkansas Licensure in Occupational Therapy, in good standing Selects continuing education in programs relevant to the department Takes responsibility for his/her ongoing learning and professional development Completes yearly in-services (Infection Control, Fire Safety, Safety Management and Utilizes NARMC provided continuing education programs Participates in work related in-services Uses non-conventional educational methods, home study, on-line and journals appropriately Experience: 1 to 2 years experience preferred Degrees, Licensure and/or Certification: BLS certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Core competencies include: Collaboration and team building skills, leadership skills, excellent planning and organizational skills, Effective and efficient decision making skills; and strong analysis and judgment skills Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
