The Assistive Technology Specialist position is meant to meet the Assistive Technology (AT) needs of patients across our Brooks system of care. It includes evaluating needs, developing treatment plans, and providing on-going training and support to both patients and staff of Brooks to increase functional independence of patients in the Jacksonville and surrounding community.

This position works in conjunction with all other disciplines (RN/ST/PT/OT) and other specialists' roles across our system. The value proposition this creates is to increase independence for patients in need throughout our system as well as educate the community as to how technology and innovative thinking can create opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Screen, evaluate, develop treatment plans, and provide on-going treatment and support for patients with AT needs throughout our system of care.
  • Obtain, order, and maintain an Assistive Technology inventory.
  • Organize/Develop an assistive technology center (room within each inpatient rehabilitation hospital) -for showcase of equipment and technology, with workstations and space for patients to trial devices, and space for treatment sessions and evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain a program for loaning devices to our patients for trial and use while within our system.
  • Provide on-going mentoring and consultation for all staff working with patients with AT needs.
  • Collaborate with other specialists throughout our Brooks system to meet the comprehensive needs and goals of our complex patients.
  • Develop opportunities for allowing individuals in the community to receive AT services, trial devices, and increase participation in activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an Assistive Technology showcase that features new innovative technology to assist with independent living as well as serve as a training center for assistive technology for both inpatient and outpatient populations
  • Maintain 75% productive patient contact hours within all facilities served - this includes screenings, patient training on AT, other needs for treatment to ensure success with AT, family training, staff training with patients in order to ensure adoption of AT that is customized for each patient
  • Schedule patient treatments and staff training in compliance with productivity standards
  • Develop documentation standards for AT needs to provide to patients and providers to ensure seamless transitions as well as potential for insurance reimbursement in the future.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current Occupational Therapy License in the State of Florida
  • 3-5 years of experience treating neurologically impaired patients

Preferred:

  • Experience using various forms of assistive technology, both low tech and high tech
  • Experience using and training others on advanced rehabilitation technology
  • General knowledge of 3D printing, robotics, mobile applications, and adaptive video gaming
  • Comfortable with presenting and collaborating with outside organizations
  • Current Assistive Technology Professional Certification, or willing to prepare and sit for a certification
  • Able to self manage a schedule and good time management skills

Location: Brooks Rehabilitation Neuro Recovery Center at 3599 University Blvd S., Jacksonville, FL 32216. *Other satellite locations as needed that include Bartram Hospital, Health Care Plaza, Brooks Skilled Nursing facilities, Memorial Hospital, and Virtual as needed.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm with flexibility needed based on Patients Needs

Compensation: Experience and education may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
