Primary Job Functions: The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) plays a crucial role in assisting and supporting licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in providing comprehensive speech and language services to students in the public school system. The SLPA works under the direct supervision and guidance of the supervising SLP, collaborating with educational professionals and families to enhance communication skills and facilitate optimal educational experiences for students. This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and the ability to obtain licensure through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Salary Lane: TECHD - Hourly pay starting at $27.00.

Assigned Workday Calendar: 185 days (School Year Days)

Status: Full-Time (35 Hours per Week)

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Full-Time Benefits: Eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for PERF Retirement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related field.

  • Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of speech and language disorders, assessment techniques, and intervention strategies commonly used in a school-based setting.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals.

  • Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and work under the supervision and guidance of a licensed SLP.

  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with relevant software and tools for documentation, data collection, and educational purposes.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting the communication and educational needs of students.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Experience: None is required. See certification requirement below.

  • Certification: ASHA certification is preferred. Must be able to obtain licensure through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant.

  • Other: Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the supervising SLP in implementing speech and language therapy services in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and treatment plans for students.
  • Work closely with students individually or in small groups to support the development of speech, language, and communication skills.
  • Provide assistance during therapy sessions, including implementing therapy techniques, utilizing appropriate materials and resources, and documenting student progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to ensure consistent communication strategies and support across various educational settings.
  • Support the supervising SLP in conducting assessments, screenings, and evaluations to determine students' communication needs and progress.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of therapy materials, equipment, and resources, ensuring their availability and readiness for therapy sessions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by establishing rapport with students, demonstrating patience, and employing effective instructional strategies.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of student progress, therapy sessions, and relevant data, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards outlined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and other relevant professional organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
