We are seeking a passionate and skilled Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) to empower blind and visually impaired adults through direct instruction in independent living, technology use, and personal skill development. A primary responsibility will include leading a course in communication technology using everyday tools (smartphones and basic PCs), with flexibility to teach Braille, JAWS, Home Management, and life skills classes. The selected candidate will be credentialed as a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) or expected to obtain certification within two years of employment.

The CVRT provides individualized instruction and support to blind and visually impaired consumers in Braille, assistive technology, home management, daily living skills, and independent communication. As a member of the Training Center team, this position helps build foundational skills that support consumers' independence and vocational success. The CVRT works closely with other instructional staff, counselors, and the Training Center Director to coordinate services. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching "Accessible Communication Technology" (ACT) classes,
  • Teaching Braille (basic to intermediate),
  • Teaching home management and daily living skills,
  • Teaching assistive technology,
  • Creating and adapting curriculum materials,
  • Tracking consumer progress and maintaining records,
  • Collaborating with the training center team,
  • Outreach, family, and community education, and
  • Professional development - COMS coursework.

Some local and in-state travel may be required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State: A bachelor's degree and relevant training and development experience.

Agency: COMS certification or the ability to obtain certification within two years is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Agency preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Vision Rehabilitation or related field preferred. Experience working with blind or visually impaired individuals. Strong skills in assistive technology, daily living instruction, and curriculum development. Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
