Occupational Therapist - 1 year appointment (August 27, 2025 - June 30, 2026)
Candidates must either currently hold the Occupational Therapist civil service title OR be eligible to be reached on the next Occupational Therapist exam.
Days: Monday - Friday

Salary: $30.75/hr. minimum (salary based upon experience)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist (required).
Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of occupational therapy.
Knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in occupational therapy.
Knowledge of community resources available to support or supplement the occupational therapy program.
Ability to design and carry out effective treatment plans.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
REPORTS TO:
Director of Pupil Services, or designee
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs occupational therapy procedures upon the written referral of a licensed physician. Obtains physician referrals upon permission of the students' guardian(s). Utilizes an exercise or creative activity treatment program designed and/or adapted to correct or improve any disability.
Provides consultative services to staff and parents, as necessary, on behalf of the student, including modifications/strategies designed to compensate for the disability where appropriate.
Evaluates the degree of function and disability of students in the educational setting unless contraindicated by the therapist's professional judgment or physician's note.
Develops a treatment plan based upon findings, short- and long-term educationally-relevant goals, in accordance with the physician's diagnosis, prescription or referral.
Maintains accurate and appropriate records of student evaluations, progress notes, consultations, and discharge summaries.
Participates in the selection of personnel in the occupational therapy service, assigns their duties and provides supervision.
Trains students in the use of adaptive assistive devices and/or self-help techniques to achieve maximum independence.
Participates with other District personnel in the formulation of students' individualized educational plans.
Confers periodically with students' physicians regarding all facets of students' academic performance upon permission of guardians.
Assists in developing occupational therapy policies and procedures for the District.
Participates in educational programs, and assists in the development of, and instructs in the District's in-service education program.
Maintains records of statistics of such things as frequency, duration, type of treatments and number of students treated.
Orders occupational therapy supplies and equipment.
Participates in research activities and the development of new treatment programs and techniques in conjunction with other staff.
