Job Title- Occupational Therapist

Overview of the Groden Center:
Internationally known for its research-based programs, helps children learn both academic and social skills that develop self-control and allow them to interact successfully with others.

General Position Description:

Assess clients' occupational therapy needs, develop and document individualized OT treatment programs, provide direct treatment as approved, train teaching staff and families in strategies for skill development in the classroom and home.
Essential Functions:

1. Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members and visitors.

2. Commit to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that will assure quality improvements and team processes.

3. Provide service coordination, essential functions and primary therapy in a center, community, and a home-based settings to achieve goals in all necessary areas.

4. Maintain an average of 60% productivity level.

5. Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations, taking responsibility for assessing motor development, and provide oral and written information to the child's parents and other team

6. Provide individual short or long term direct occupational therapy treatment when indicated through consensus of the multidisciplinary team and written in the child's IFSP.

7. Document all activities in accordance with own licensure regulations and requirements necessary for billing, agency policies and/or early intervention regulations.

8. Maintain licensure and professional knowledge through participation in professional organizations, conferences and in-services.

9. Intervene with children who may exhibiting the behaviors of enuresis, encopresis, spitting, biting, rumination, hurting others, property destruction, and running away. Contact with bodily fluids may occur, along with the necessity to physically manage, lift, and transport children.

10. Must be First Aid/CPR certified and maintain annual re-certification.

11. Communication in a manner that is audible and legible.

12. Intervene with children who may exhibiting the behaviors of enuresis, encopresis, spitting, biting, rumination, hurting others, property destruction, and running away. Contact with bodily fluids may occur, along with the necessity to physically manage, lift, and transport children.

13. Participate in designated training and events that may occur outside of regular work hours.

14. Assist new staff with learning job responsibilities by modeling job duties, answering questions and providing ongoing communications.

15. Must have a valid driver's license, insured auto, safe driving record, and own vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport.

16. Requires tact, cooperation, initiative and judgment when interacting with a variety of internal and external personnel such as persons served, staff and family member of persons served.

Additional Duties for All Network Job Descriptions:

1. Provide coverage for staff within the program at various sites during periods of short staffing, inclement weather, emergency conditions, etc.

2. Provide coverage/support across the network including rescheduling and/or redeployment to other programs requiring assistance during emergency conditions.

Education, Experience and Special Skills:

1. Bachelor’s or Master's Degree from AOTA - approved program in Occupational Therapy.

2. Must have valid Rhode Island Occupational Therapy license.

3. 1 year experience working with children who have developmental disabilities.

4. Training in sensory integration therapy.

5. Experience working with children and families.

6. Must have valid driver’s license and insured auto.
