Position Details: 6.25 hrs/day, 8:45am to 3:30pm; 190 days/year.

Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To instruct and manage an individual and/or groups of students on assigned tasks and in implementation of the communication program
  • To complete required/requested paperwork (e.g. Medicaid billing logs, meeting notifications, special education forms) in a timely manner
  • Actively participate in the student screening process and in the implementation of the communication program of special needs students
  • To assist the SLP team in maintaining necessary records
  • Supervise students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and in the community as needed
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Must have regular and consistent attendance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred training in CPI
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate
  • Previous experience working with students with communication disorders as well as a background in language acquisition and speech development preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to model and distinguish clear and appropriate speech and language
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents and students with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, flexible, and work independently toward assigned duties
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to chart, graph and maintain student progress data records
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information appropriately and ethically
  • Ability to efficiently operate common office equipment such as copier, computer, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Willingness to take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Must be a "self-motivator" toward assigned duties
  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities, i.e. classroom team meetings, in-service offerings, local workshops and clinical/educational conferences
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and follow through with changes suggested by staff and/or administrators when needed
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (e.g. ask questions, state concerns, share information) both verbally and in written work.
  • Follow treatment plans as prescribed by SLP and notify SLP as soon as possible if the treatment does not appear to meet stated student needs
  • Neat, clean personal appearance; work apparel should be appropriate for a professional and safe work environment
  • Must be able to provide own transportation as travel to different school sites may be required

EDUCATION:

  • Be at least eighteen years of age, hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent, AND must meet at least one of the following options:
  • hold an AA degree or higher from an accredited college or university; OR
  • have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits - all at a 100 level or above at an accredited college or university; OR
  • received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment OR
  • have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  • Must complete training on the Fundamental Course of Study within the timelines described in RCW 28A.413.070 in years that the program is funded by the legislature

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned
