About the Job:

We are seeking a certified Recreational Therapist or a graduate of the Division of Mental Hygienes Activity Therapy Assistant Course to support recreational activities within our facility. The Activity Assistant will assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing individual and group activities aimed at psychosocial rehabilitation for patients in an acute psychiatric healthcare setting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Serve as a resource for new patients, introducing them to other patients and staff, explaining programs, and encouraging participation. Orient patients to the activities program, explaining the benefits of activities.

Maintain awareness of patients' needs and individual goals, motivating them towards beneficial activities. Observe patients interest levels and behaviors.

Engage with patients during activities, communicate effectively, and respond to patient concerns positively.

Assist with activity planning by suggesting new ideas and diversifying therapeutic recreation programs.

Organize and set up equipment used in recreational activities, providing resources and supplies as needed.

Maintain neat and organized activity areas to ensure safety.

Encourage participation in individual and group recreation programming, promoting interest in activities.

Explain activity rules and instruct participants of varying skill levels.

Document activity interventions and patient progress according to facility requirements, including attendance and behavior notes.

Enforce safety rules and modify activities to meet specific needs.

Contribute to departmental resource development and monitor equipment and supplies.
