Job Details Job Location Vaughn Central - Pacoima, CA Position Type Full Time Job Category Certificated - Others Description JOB TITLE: Speech and Language Pathologist STATUS: Full Time, Exempt REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW Vaughn Next Century Learning Center ("Vaughn"), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district's low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, TK-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent. POSITION OVERVIEW The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides appropriate speech-language services to students in TK-12 that are exhibiting communication disorders involving language, articulation, fluency, and voice. The SLP helps students through prevention efforts (RTI), assessment/identification, and intervention services. The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and support staff to develop and implement individualized strategies that enhance students' communication skills and access to learning. RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Director, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments to identify students with communication disorders. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and specialists. Provide direct and indirect therapy to students with speech, language, fluency, voice, and social communication disorders. Provide direct, individual and/or small group instruction to identified students on a regular scheduled basis as required in the IEP. Regularly collaborates with team members, parents and related service providers for the purpose of: reviewing student data, ensuring IEP implementation, adjusting supports and services as determined by current data, scheduling Create and maintain records, files, and reports as required by federal, state, and SELPA regulations. Monitor student progress and adjust intervention plans accordingly. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with federal, state, and district policies. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to integrate speech and language interventions into classroom settings. Provide consultation and training to educators and families on strategies to support students with communication challenges. Participate in IEP meetings, student support and progress team discussions, and professional development activities. Stay updated on best practices, research, and legal requirements related to school-based speech and language services. Engages in Governing Committees Works beyond the parameters of a regular school day to assure the success of the program Desires to work closely with students, colleagues and community in modeling and teaching the values of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center Qualifications SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center Extremely high standards for student achievement Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and identify communication disorders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with students, staff, and families. Ability to manage a caseload effectively and provide student-centered interventions. Familiarity with IEP processes and legal compliance in special education. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or communicative disorders from an ASHA accredited university. California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential or California Clinical or Rehabilitative Services credential with an authorization in Language, Speech and Hearing (issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing).
