Speech & Language Pathologist

The Amherst Public and Amherst Regional Public School Districts are seeking a full time speech language pathologist to work 30% with preschool students (including Bilingual English/Spanish evaluations) and 70% with secondary students.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Provide direct services to address a wide range of needs i.e. receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, articulation, aural rehabilitation, oral motor intervention, auditory processing, social communication, etc. to individual and small groups of students.

Provide case management, therapy and treatment planning and implementation, and consultation.

Conduct comprehensive assessments and reports, participate in IEP Team meetings, write IEPs, write progress reports and complete any applicable Medicaid billing documentation.

Provide direct speech and language services in the general education setting, service providers office, community program and/or in collaboration with other service providers.

Provide speech and language services through a collaborative-transdisciplinary model of intervention and across curriculum.

Functions as a member of the diagnostic team by providing comprehensive differential diagnosis, assessment, and educational planning and services for students with speech, language, and communication disorders.

Highly qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Experience with assistive technologies and augmentative communication
  • Experience with mild/moderate to severe special needs and atypical learning profiles in grade PK-12
  • Experience with a diverse population of students within a multicultural school / community
  • Strong ability to work as a member of a professional learning community and multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong ability to multitask and work within a fast paced environment focused on student learning and measurable outcomes
  • Experience with and commitment to inclusion that benefits students academically and social/emotionally
  • Experience with administering and interpreting formal and informal assessments, as well as strong interpretation and report writing skills
  • Highly effective executive function skills including being well organized, strong time management skills, and able to work independently to meet timelines
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills that promote and encourage collaboration with colleagues, parents, and administrators
  • Strong ability to supervise and work collaboratively with paraprofessional staff including completing evaluations if needed
  • Maintain currency in the field and emphasize the role and use of data in treatment and program planning

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Skills/Experience/Education):

  • Speech & Language Pathologist licenses by the applicable oversight boards (Board of Health).
  • Current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification/license as a Speech Language Pathologist, All levels.

Bilingual speech pathologists (English/Spanish) is required.

Experience in a public school setting is highly preferable but not required.
