Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - School - Contract Part Time

A great School is looking for an experienced Speech Language Pathologist / SLP to join their growing team for a contract assignment!

The Speech Language Pathologist / SLP is responsible for the assessment of referred patients that require treatment for speech, hearing and or language deficits. The Speech Language Pathologist / SLP will teach patients how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their oral or written language skills to communicate more effectively. Also, the Speech Language Pathologist / SLP will teach individuals how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid.

Primary Functions

  • Conduct speech therapy assessments, re-assessments, and make recommendations using pediatric assessments and industry best practice interventions.
  • Develop rapport with family and child to involve familys input and priorities in the therapy plan and home program.
  • Create individualized and measurable goals based on the child and family needs and the interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Implement and utilize speech therapy interventions that are established by the industry and best practices with pediatric research.
  • Maintain records of professional, accurate and timely (average of 2 days from DOS) documentation on each child on the speech language pathologists caseload using industry best practices and meets payor requirements within practice standards.
  • Participate in pediatric professional organizations, attend seminars, conferences, or workshops to maintain industry best practices and remain current updated literature and technology related to the field of speech therapy. Meet continuing education units required to maintain Kansas license.
  • Follow KDADS and ASHA code of ethics, and all Heartspring policies and procedures.
  • Customer Service ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals with varying needs within a timely matter.
  • Clinical Outcomes ability to use best practice interventions in an individualized manner to demonstrate positive clinical outcomes for the child and family with a comprehensive interdisciplinary team.
  • Industry Best Practice Interventions - ability to learn and implement speech therapy best practice interventions in the individualized therapy plans for the child and family.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration ability to create a positive work environment that fosters interdisciplinary team collaboration and coordination of therapeutic best practice interventions.
  • Effective Communication ability to communicate in written, verbal and non-verbal communication with others to seek solutions and implement most ideal plan.
  • Relationship Building ability to develop rapport and struggle with team members towards a solution.
  • Adaptable ability to provide billable services and sustain attention with interruptions and/or distractions of the scheduled plan.

Requirements include:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited school.
  • Current state license as a Speech Language Pathologist / SLP or proactively in the process of the application process for current state licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist / SLP.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Will need to assist with self care on occasion
  • Assesses patient needs, plans for, evaluates and modifies care to meet goals of speech therapy.

Educational, Training, and Licensure Requirements

  • Masters or higher degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Kansas Speech Language Pathology License in good standing.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competency from ASHA.
  • Meet continuing education units required to maintain Kansas license and ASHA certificate of clinical competency by attending pediatric seminars, conference, or workshops to maintain industry best practices and remain current and updated on literature and technology related to the field of speech language pathology.
  • CPR Certification maintained and in good standing.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification maintained and in good standing.

Physical Requirements

  • Transitional Movements: Walking, standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, grasping, pushing, pulling, crawling, and Climbing stairs- Constantly
  • Rotating or changing to different physical positions based on the needs of the environment- Constantly
  • Lifting of 20 Pounds- Frequently
  • Lifting up to 30 Pounds- Occasionally
  • Repetitive Motion: Sitting, typing- Occasionally
  • Hearing, Seeing and Speaking- Constantly
