Newark Public Schools is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide critical support to students needing help with fine motor skills, self-care tasks, sensory regulation, and school participation. This role plays a vital part in promoting student independence and success in both general and special education settings.
About the Role:
The OT will assess student needs, develop individualized treatment strategies, and collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure students are able to access learning in the least restrictive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Complete occupational therapy evaluations and write detailed reports
Create and implement therapy goals in line with IEPs
Address functional areas including motor planning, handwriting, and daily living skills
Provide direct services and consultative support in the classroom
Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in Occupational Therapy
Active New Jersey OT License
NJDOE Educational Services Certificate (OT endorsement)
Previous school-based or pediatric experience preferred
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to adapt to diverse learning environments
Position Details:
Type: Full-time, onsite
Schedule: MondayFriday, standard school hours
Caseload: K12 (assigned based on district needs)
