Senior Outpatient Neuro Occupational Therapist - University Medical Center Rehab Therapies

The Department of Rehabilitation Therapies at University of Iowa Health Care-University Campus is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to administer treatment to patients with complex physical and cognitive dysfunctions, disorders and/or injuries and evaluate and interpret findings. This position will primarily be assigned to the hospital-based outpatient clinic as well as select multidisciplinary clinics within our University Medical Center Campus.

Provide quality patient care, evaluation, assessment, and treatment appropriate for patients with complex or specialized needs. Assignment will primarily involve working with patients with complex neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Participate in the development of innovative clinical teaching activities to meet the learning needs of staff and students.
  • Perform routine and assigned administrative tasks in an efficient manner and demonstrate innovative problem-solving approaches.
  • Provides divisional and departmental leadership by:
    • Collaborating on special projects and assisting management as necessary
    • Participating in clinical research and maintaining a high level of clinical productivity
    • Providing educational experiences to staff and students
    • Serving as a clinical resource
  • Demonstrating the ability to set and accomplish divisional/departmental goals.
  • Identify opportunities, monitor, and participate in quality/process improvement activities and recommend corrective actions for effectiveness.
  • Performs special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • 2 years' experience as an Occupational Therapist working primarily in an outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated clinical education abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a work or other professional setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Licenses/ Certification:

  • Licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy is required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Occupational Therapist with a high degree of understanding and skill in the evaluation and rehabilitation of complex neurological patients including ALS, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, stroke, and other general dysfunctions.
  • Ability to practice in an autonomous manner.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in provision of patient care.
  • Demonstrated effort to enhance ones own knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated program/service development or quality improvement projects.
