Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

A K-12 school in Tuscaloosa, AL is seeking a qualified Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to provide specialized support and services to students with hearing impairments. Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, develop, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are in place
• Provide direct instruction, auditory/oral and sign language support, and assistive technology training as needed
• Monitor student progress and adjust strategies to meet evolving needs
• Advocate for students' communication and educational rights within the school community
• Deliver professional development and training to faculty and staff regarding best practices for supporting students with hearing loss

Qualifications:

• Relevant certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist, Teacher of the Deaf, or equivalent
• Experience working with K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Strong knowledge of communication methods, assistive technology, and hearing accommodations
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with federal and state laws regarding special education services
