Overview *This position is offered through a No-Fee Staffing Service

Location: 96th MDG/Eglin AFB, FL

Work Schedule: Shall perform the services required under this contract between the following hours: 0700-1600 CST Monday through Friday. Services are for a nine (9) hour period to include a one (1) hour (non-paid) lunch. The Occupational Therapist shall not be required to work on weekends and Federal Holidays.

Responsibilities

Provide full spectrum of occupational therapy services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF.

Evaluate and treat deficits in occupational performance components that include motor, neuro-musculoskeletal, cognitive, social, and psychological dysfunction. Treatment includes individual and group-based purposeful activity, exercise, physical agent modalities, fabrication and training in the use of temporary functional orthotics, splints and adaptive devices, counseling, and education.

Perform a full range of occupational therapist services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF for both inpatient and outpatient services.

All patient contact and care shall be safe, timely, result in achievement of realistic and documented treatment goals, and comply with or satisfy the intent of the referring medical staff and the guidelines of the therapy department.

Administer treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment such as ultrasound, whirlpool bath, moist packs, cold packs, iontophoresis, TENS. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

Fabricate upper and lower extremity splinting and orthotics using various splinting materials to include thermoplastic materials and delta cast.

Administer soft tissue mobilization, applying knowledge of mobilization techniques and body physiology.

Coordinate treatment with physician and other staff members to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of the patient's health care. Contact referring physicians regarding patient care concerns, as required.

Provide assessment, education, and training in the areas of health promotion and disease/injury prevention, to include prevention of psychological dysfunction and stress management.

Administer and interpret occupational therapy assessment and evaluation tools.

Interpret evaluation findings to develop and coordinate intervention plans, including goals and methods to achieve stated goals.

Implement the intervention plans directly or in collaboration with others.

Monitor the individual's response to interventions and modify treatment plan and reevaluate as necessary.

Communicate and/or collaborate with the patients, family members, caregivers, interdisciplinary professionals or other individuals verbally and in writing.

Provide supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Medicine Technicians and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Orient and instruct work activities of assistants, technicians, aides, and students.

Participate in peer review activities.

Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the MTF's Do Not Use Abbreviation List. (AFI 44-172 / AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, 5 November 2013)

Medical Records Documentation. Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.

Coding. Contractor employees shall use the proper coding of procedures and treatment, and shall maintain coding accuracy (CPT/E&M/procedure) at the same standard, 90% or higher, as military and civil service health care providers engaged in comparable work.

Qualifications

Degree: Master's degree in occupational therapy.

Education: Graduate from a program in occupational therapy accredited at the time of graduation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or predecessor organization, to include an internship prescribed by the education institution.

Certification: Certified in occupational therapy through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the area of inpatient and/or outpatient hand therapy and physical disabilities within the past three (3) years.

Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy as required in the TO.
