Night Shift PRN

Major Responsibilities: RRT/Patient Relationship: Performs patient assessment to ensure appropriate and effective procedures are performed 1) Reviews physician orders. Notifies physician in situations of incomplete, conflicting or inappropriate orders 2) Assesses appropriateness of order and recommends a case plan in regards to patient diagnosis/status. 3) Modalities include but are not limited to mechanical ventilation, BiPAP, arterial blood gas acquisition, routine pulse oximetry, administration of supplemental oxygen/aerosol therapy, and bronchial hygiene procedures Assuring/Improving Quality: Maintain quality, effectiveness of care 1) Participates in continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs as required 2) Incorporates standards of care into practice 3) Identifies patient/family concerns and communicates information to Nursing staff 4) Identifies current literature in area of practice. Patient/Staff Education/Orientation: Demonstrates a commitment to learning needs of patients and staff 1) Identifies patient and/or staff learning needs. Initiate teaching using respiratory protocols, patient care standards, and plan of care. 2) Recognizes own abilities and contributes to a learning environment. 3) Participates in the Asthma Education initiative 4) Provides inservices as needed, to staff, physicians and patients 5) Obtains a minimum of 12 CEUs annually. 6) Attends clinical inservices (internal/external) in order to maintain clinical knowledge base. 7) Assists in developing/reviewing department policy and procedures Demonstrates the use of standard Respiratory practices as a model of care 1) Completes assessments, reviews orders and performs modalities in a timely, professional manner. 2) Prioritizes and organizes assigned procedures to ensure continuity of care 3) Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. 4) Utilizes resources to maintain standards of clinical respiratory model. Leadership/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines. Acts as a member of the patient care team. Demonstrates professional behaviors and is committed to self development. 1) Contributes to effective operations of the department 2) Sets professional development goals with guidance from management team. 3) Seeks opportunity for professional growth 4) Demonstrates effective communication and feedback skills 5) Acts in a lead capacity as assigned. 6) Precepts new RRTs/CRTs while serving as a role model.Licensure:Respiratory Care PractitionerEducation/Experience Required: RRT Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy, willing to obtain Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Strong interpersonal, clinical, problem solving, team building and communication skills. Must work well under stressful situations Computer skills RRT Licensed as RCP in Illinois Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: N/AIf position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.Addendum: Additional Accountabilities for Reg Respiratory Therapist working in Pulmonary Rehabilitation. 1. To administer safe and effective exercise and to provide quality care to adult/pediatric patients involved in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. 2. Assurance of appropriate, safe, and effective exercise Comply with the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care profession, ACMC, and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation department. Assist in performing initial interviews and evaluations of the patient and family to implement a plan of care to meet his/her physical, psychological, and social needs. Observe and assess patients condition and implement appropriate interventions. Must have knowledge of progression of lung disease in the adult/pediatric pulmonary patient. Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. 3. Responsible for Conduction of Exercise Session: Monitored exercise oximetry: Patients are monitored through exercise for saturation of oxygen changes. Responsible for knowing appropriate changes and when and how to treat the patient and be able to perform emergency procedures when necessary as per department policies and procedures Monitored exercise telemetry: Patients are monitored at 6 minute walks, if physician or medical director recommends it. Unmonitored exercise session: Patients are assessed for blood pressure pre and post exercise and saturations checked pre, post and during exercise. The incumbent must be aware of any complaints or symptoms and make independent decisions concerning intervention. Responsible for following exercise protocol designed for each individual and reporting and discussing needed changes in that protocol to the physician. Communicates pertinent information of the patients progress to his/her COA, physicians, and the patient. COA will determine if manager needs to be informed. Maintains confidentiality of patients information. Assists in Cardiac Rehabilitation when needed. 4. Provision of Education Tools: Assists with the development of educational materials used in the pulmonary rehab to teach patients about pulmonary disease, risk factor modification, exercise and life style changes. Prepares the patient physically, mentally and emotionally for the progression of their pulmonary disease, improving their capability to perform ADLs. Participates in educating other hospital staff by teaching, supporting and interacting. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings, community program, family and patient support groups. Be supportive of the patient who is trying to modify his lifestyle. Leads patient education sessions in area of respiratory expertise. 5. Providing Safe Environment for Exercise: Assists in assuming responsibility for the safe and appropriate use of equipment and supplies. Demonstrates teaching strategies with patients, their families and other health care members. Assists patients in learning to safely perform exercise in a home setting, Phase III or health club. Performs CPR and other emergency procedures as per department policy and procedure. 6. Participate in Professional Development and Contribution to CQI Atmosphere: Attends inservices and continuing education programs appropriate to needs and goals. Looks for improvement opportunities for self and department. Provides pertinent information and feedback to other health care team members. Pay Range

$34.90 - $52.35
