Under the general supervision of the school principal or designee, and daily direction of a certificated Speech/Language Pathologist, assists in providing authorized and appropriate services for students identified as having special needs in the area of speech and language communication such as developing pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a standard framework of policies and procedures. This classification is under the direction of the Executive Director and/or Assistant Director of Special Education, and is established to provide educationally related speech therapy services according to students Individualized Education Programs. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires an Associates degree in a speech-language pathology assistant program. Paid or volunteer experience in speech/language or special education related areas preferred.
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Requires valid certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant through the State of California.
Requires a valid California drivers license.
Some positions in this classification may require the ability to fluently speak, read, and write a designated second language. SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process tentatively includes the following: Step 1: Application screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination and qualification appraisal interview. Upon qualifying, applicants will be notified by email with further instructions. Applicants must pass the application screening to advance to the next step, the qualification appraisal interview. Step 2: Training & Experience Evaluation: (weighted 100%) A Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E) is a structured evaluation of the job application materials submitted by a candidate, including the written responses to the supplemental questionnaire. The T&E is NOT a determination of whether the candidate meets the stated requirements; rather, the T&E is one method for determining who are the better qualified among those who have shown that they meet the stated requirements. In a T&E, applications are scored and rank ordered according to criteria that most closely meet the business needs of the department. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION:
New Hires Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.
Education Incentives
All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.
AA/AS = 2.50%
BA/BS = 4.00%
MA/MS = 5.00%
Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 6.00%

- Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided
