Mental Health Counselor

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Mental Health, Wellness and Performance, the Mental Health Counselor will provide general psychological services (sport psychology, evaluation, treatment, and education) to student-athletes. Incumbent will provide consultation and relevant training to coaches, athletic trainers, and other athletic department staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Master's degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, or Social Work. One (1) to two (2) years of experience in intercollegiate athletics or three (3) years in a clinical setting.Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: stress management, substance abuse and alcohol education, eating disorders, crisis management, depression, anxiety, grief, identity crisis and other psychological issues related to injury and rehabilitation in competitive athletes. Required specialized training in sport psychology, kinesiology, and/or AASP certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC).

Certification or Licensure Requirements:
  • Licensed in the State of Pennsylvania as a psychologist, counselor, or social worker within six months to one year of employment.
  • Licensure must be maintained as a condition of employment.
