This role is night shift (12-hour shifts, 3x/week) for a 13-week assignment. Overview: The Respiratory Therapist provides high-quality patient care, including intensive respiratory support and patient transport. Working with minimal supervision, this position evaluates patients and implements appropriate treatment plans within the scope of licensure. Key Responsibilities: Deliver physician-prescribed respiratory care using ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices Provide education to patients on treatments, procedures, and home care upon discharge Conduct chest physiotherapy and suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal) Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring in accordance with facility policy Review patient chest x-rays and perform basic pulmonary function tests (e.g., NIF, VC) Execute 12-lead EKGs and recognize basic arrhythmias Assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and percutaneous tracheostomies Manage tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal Perform arterial blood gas sampling and interpret ventilation efficiency Support moderate complexity lab testing processes as required Participate in CPR and advanced cardiac life support according to BLS/ACLS standards Insert and remove endotracheal tubes using approved techniques and equipment Set up, test, and monitor mechanical ventilators; assist with equipment maintenance Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and charges Communicate with physicians and team members on patient care progress and efficiency Participate in shift change hand-offs and maintain continuity of care Perform other duties as assigned Requirements: Current Respiratory Therapist license in SD or compact eligible BLS certification (ACLS preferred) Prior experience in acute or long-term acute care settings preferred Strong critical thinking and patient education skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team HumanEdge Travel Healthcare Job ID #11112.
