The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 2 in Las Vegas. The Intensive In-Home Clinical Team Program provides intensive home and community based clinical services to youth birth through age 18 with complex behavioral health needs and their families. The Mental Health Counselor serves as the clinical lead for the team; completes comprehensive assessments; SED and SMI determinations; provides individual and family therapy; level of care assessments; contributes to the development and implementation of safety and soothing plans; member of and clinical lead for the child and family team; provides input into treatment plan, psychosocial needs, goals and objectives; provides recommendations for changes in services; crisis assessment and stabilization interventions as indicated during the course of treatment. Teams work with a small number of youths at a time to ensure families receive the services they need, at the location they need and at intensity that is required for stability and success. Teams typically work four 10-hour shifts per week. Current shift openings for Mental Health Counselors are either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday between the hours of 9am and 10pm. This position is eligible for shift differential pay and is covered under State Collective Bargaining Agreement, Unit E. Clinical supervision for licensure may be available.
