Position: Speech Therapist
School/Department: Special Education/Site
Reports To: Student Services Director/Site Admin.
DESCRIPTION: Provide assessment and remediation for individuals with exceptional
needs who have moderate to severe problems in the areas of receptive and expressive speech and
language processing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Speech Therapist is responsible to 1) assess
individual pupil's receptive, expressive, integrative and symbolic language developments
language processing including articulation disorders, 2) participate with the IEP team in the
development of the IEP and provide assigned services when indicated, 3) serve as a consultant to
individuals with exceptional needs, their parents and school personnel, 4) coordinates and
consult with administrators, regular classroom teachers, parents and support staff regarding
instructional planning for individuals with exceptional needs, 5) functions as a case coordinator
when so designated by the site administrator, 6) prepare accurate basic attendance accounting
and complete other required records accurately and promptly, 7) contribute to the development
and achievement of District goals and school programs through active participation on teacher
and parent committees, offering leadership in school and professional activities and maintaining
effective and ethical interpersonal relationships, 8) conduct ongoing self-evaluation and institute
a self-improvement program by participating in professional improvement programs by attending
courses, conferences and lectures, and by exploring personal effectiveness in relationships with
co-workers, administrators, parents, board members and pupils.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with augmentative communication.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing
and speech sufficient to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations; mobility
sufficient to efficiently perform the duties of the position. Should be able to lift 50
lbs. (Consideration may be given to reasonable accommodation for above.)
