Speech Language Pathologist We are seeking a motivated Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for our Transition Program Campus at the Camphill School. Speech language therapy is often multifaceted, involving language stimulation as well as the production of speech. Therapy focuses on a multi-modality approach to communication including the use of voice, signs, gestures, facial expression, communication pictures, books and AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication) devices if appropriate. Therapy objectives vary based upon the individual child's needs and abilities as per their individualized education plan (IEP). Most speech/language therapy plans focus on improving some combination of the following skill areas: receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic or social skills, articulation, oral motor skills, fluency and/or voice quality. Therapy can be individual or in a group, sometimes speech and OT work together to promote speech and language through movement activities. Speech language therapists at the Camphill School Transition Program may operate in the field by pushing into the vocational setting, collaborating with staff and teachers to support communication needs OR may hold private 1:1 sessions in a designated speech therapy space. The objective is for speech language skills to generalize across all environments and to help incorporate AAC devices, picture communication books, switches, language boards and picture schedules into daily routines. The speech therapist candidate must be tech savvy and adept at navigating and programming a variety of communication applications such as LAMP and Proloquo to go or have a strong interest in learning. It is the role of the speech therapist to program AAC devices to be specific to each child and their unique communication needs.
