POSITION SUMMARY
Craig Hospital is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to deliver expert respiratory care within our specialized rehabilitation setting. This role goes beyond technical skill — you will be a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring each patient receives individualized, high-quality respiratory therapy aligned with the hospital’s standards and protocols. Your expertise will support diagnosis, treatment, and recovery for patients with complex cardiopulmonary needs, including those with spinal cord and brain injuries.
As a Respiratory Therapist at Craig, you’ll coordinate care delivery, operate advanced respiratory equipment, and provide life-sustaining interventions. Your clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and ability to respond quickly in emergencies will be instrumental in improving patient outcomes and fostering a healing environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver comprehensive respiratory care services based on established Respiratory Care Department policies and evidence-based protocols.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Operate and troubleshoot a variety of respiratory equipment, including mechanical ventilators (invasive and non-invasive), aerosol generators, and oxygen delivery systems.
- Monitor patient responses to therapy, adjusting interventions as necessary to optimize ventilation and oxygenation.
- Conduct arterial blood gas sampling, EKG testing, spirometry, and non-invasive ventilation monitoring to assess patient status and guide treatment.
- Provide airway clearance therapies such as suctioning, assisted cough techniques, chest physiotherapy, and related modalities tailored to patient needs.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including CODE Blue calls—administering CPR, intubating as necessary, and maintaining active ACLS certification.
- Ensure patient safety and equipment functionality by regularly assessing ventilator settings, alarms, and clinical indicators.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, medication administration, and equipment used to promote understanding and adherence.
- Mentor and precept new respiratory care staff, nursing personnel, and students, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
- Assist with patient transport to diagnostic procedures and support physicians during bronchoscopy and other specialized interventions.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of all respiratory care activities, patient assessments, and therapy outcomes in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times while promoting a respectful, inclusive environment.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Licensure & Certification:
- Active Colorado Respiratory Care License
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (preferred)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years' recent clinical respiratory therapy experience preferred, ideally in acute care or rehabilitation settings.
Skills & Strengths:
- Strong clinical acumen in respiratory therapy techniques, patient assessment, and cardiopulmonary interventions
- Excellent communication skills—able to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with patients and families
- Ability to prioritize care in fast-paced, dynamic environments while maintaining composure and focus
- Skilled at identifying subtle changes in patient condition and initiating timely interventions or escalation
- Technically proficient with respiratory care equipment and electronic medical records (EMR)
- Committed to patient-centered care, respecting diversity, and demonstrating cultural sensitivity
- Proven ability to educate and mentor colleagues and students
- Physical stamina and agility to meet the demands of acute patient care and emergency response

Per-Diem Positions:
Employees who are not benefit eligible due to working less than 24 hours/ week or being Per-Diem are able to participate in Craig Hospital’s 403B Retirement plan through Empower Retirement. Additionally, you will be able to take advantage of the programs offered through the Employee Assistance Programs.
Salary Range: $31.90/ Hour - $45.94/ Hour + 18% Per-Diem Differential and Shift Differentials
