Position Summary
Under supervision, provides administrative and clinical care support for physicians, including taking patient vitals and facilitating patient flow throughout the office visit. This role also provides back-up coverage for front desk check-in and check-out functions and back end administrative functions as needed..
Job Responsibilities
- Collects patient history intake forms and inputs patient data into the practice management system for physician review.
- Accompanies the patient and the provider into the exam room.
- Responsible for taking patient weight, heart rate and blood pressure.
- Supports the physician who performs history, physical exams, minor diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms and sterilization of medical instruments. Ensures the instruments and equipment are gathered prior to patient entering a room.
- Creates, starts and departs ImageCast appointments and pushes and verifies ultrasound study to PACS in order to transfer US images from Terason units to PACS.
- Under the supervision/guidance of physician(s) performs the following on the Tersaon ultrasound units when requested: turns unit on/off, freezes images, moves calipers to take vein diameter measurements and vein reflux time and saves captured videos.
- Labels syringes when asked by physician during patient appointment under direct supervision.
- Under guidance, follows all patient/staff safety measures for laser use. Handles laser fiber/laser generator, enables/disables foot pedal for physician and may adjust power setting, following required verification checks and under physician supervision.
- Provides back-up coverage for other staff members including administrative support to physicians and practice administration.
- Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date. Facilitates the communication and collection of any fees due from patient.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- High School Diploma
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Graduation from an accredited medical assistant or equivalent clinical training program is required.
Approximately 2 years of related experience in a patient-facing clinical setting desired.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Previous experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care).
