POSITION : Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs)
SCHOOL: New Fairfield Middle School
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides support services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to assist in the delivery of speech and language services to students with communication disorders. The SLPA helps implement individualized communication programs as outlined in students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans. This role involves working directly with students in various school settings and requires strong collaboration with SLPs, educators, and families to support student communication and learning outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support students in practicing and applying communication skills across school settings by implementing strategies and activities designed and supervised by a licensed SLP.
- Assist in conducting speech and language screenings
- Collect and document student performance data to support progress monitoring
- Support the development and preparation of instructional materials and speech therapy activities
- Participate in school-based team meetings and contribute to collaborative problem-solving
- Maintain accurate service logs and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations
- Uphold ethical and professional standards in accordance with ASHA guidelines and district expectations
- Associates degree or higher in a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field
- State certification or licensure as required for SLPAs in Connecticut
- Experience working with children in educational or therapeutic settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to follow therapy protocols and work collaboratively under supervision
- Commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and communication needs
SALARY: $32,000 - $35,000
