About the Position

This is a great opportunity for physical therapists seeking to advance their career. This position will serve as a specialty area therapist, focusing on patient care delivery for pediatric services. Specific areas and settings include outpatient developmental pediatrics and inpatient acute care pediatrics in the NICU, PICU, and general medicine floors. This position also provides clinical care coverage for the adult population. Primarily assigned to our Central Campus, which is located in the heart of the Chicago Medical District, the PTIII will also mentor and orient other therapists assigned to pediatric service areas. JOB SUMMARY

Under direction, is responsible for Physical Therapy patient care delivery to the inpatient and outpatient caseloads in the adult and pediatric populations. Evaluates patients of all ages referred for physical therapy consultation, treatment or educational classes. Orients, instructs, and mentors and evaluates junior staff therapists and students who rotate through the service. Makes recommendations for development or revision of programs, procedures, protocols for relevant services. Assumes responsibility for the area in the absence of the PT Supervisor.

Typical Duties

  • Performs 100% patient care including: evaluations, treatments, screenings, individual and group therapies, provides durable medical equipment and complete clinical documentation according to departmental procedures and policies. Demonstrates advanced competency in evaluation and treatment skills.
  • Communicates with management, physicians and other health team members and patient's caregivers concerning procedures or protocols within the scope of the service.as necessary.
  • Attends clinics, rounds, meetings and conferences as scheduled. Make recommendations for patient discharge planning.
  • Supervises patient's treatments delegated to support staff.
  • Orients or gives lectures to physicians, nurses, personnel as requested.
  • Meets on a regular basis with supervisor and department administration.
  • Organizes and plans activities of specialized unit. Prioritizes patients as necessary.
  • Orients junior staff and students to the specialized unit. Instructs them in specialized techniques necessary to evaluate and treat patients covered in this service. Reviews competencies completed during rotation. Supervises and evaluates personnel and students rotating through this service. Encourages development of independent thinking and supervisory skills in junior staff.
  • Monitors the quality of patient care in the area.
  • Responsible for care of the environment, equipment, and following any special precautions in the area.
  • Recommends to Director any equipment, supplies, personnel needs. Provides statistical data to justify requests.
  • Recommends, writes and implements programs with guidance.
  • Maintains statistics and performs patient billing according to departmental requirements.
  • Attends and contributes to interdisciplinary, hospital and departmental meetings.
  • Maintains an appropriate patient volume and productivity record.
  • Complies with all department, hospital, and regulatory agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assists with durable medical equipment performing stock, inventory, and ordering of supplies based on departmental and patient needs.
  • Assists to keep facility tidy, presentable and clean.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) when interacting with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals.
  • Takes responsibility for workflow and assignments in various clinical areas providing coverage when other staff members are absent.
  • May be given extra responsibilities for the following areas: safety, quality improvement, infection control, orderliness, protocols, clinical equipment standards, and competencies.
  • Demonstrate effective use of functional activities during PT evaluations and treatments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current licensure in the State of Illinois as a Physical Therapist
  • Two (2) years post-graduate Physical Therapist Clinical Experience
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills
  • Experience as a clinical instructor of therapy students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior neurology experience
  • Prior burn experience
  • Prior pediatrics experience
  • Level 1 Trauma Center/Teaching Hospital environment
