Compensation Range:

$80,923.00 - $105,208.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides services to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication and swallowing disorders in children and/or adult populations. Provides direct speech-language services as well as through consultation and teaching. Possesses expertise and experience in a clinical sub-specialty and/or be in departmental leadership role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as departmental resource for clinical sub-specialty area and/or executes departmental leadership function.
  • Provides consultation for complex patients, such as those with neurological disorders, voice disorders and closed head/traumatic brain injuries.
  • Performs and interprets specialized tests for highly complex patients.
  • Performs and interprets speech and language evaluations for patients with communicative disorders and those requiring more specialized care, such as patients with dysphagia, laryngectomy and aphasia.
  • Plans and provides speech and language therapy and intervention based on evaluation results.
  • Develops and initiates treatment programs for more complex patients, including Plans of Care.
  • Provides counseling, education, and guidance to patients and their families regarding disorder(s).
  • Adapts existing resources to meet patient and caregiver needs.
  • Maintains comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) for each patient.
  • Communicates through written reports, flowsheet documentation, and other EMR specific tools.
  • Recommends changes in standard departmental practices.
  • Develops guidelines for implementing patient care to a wide variety of patients.
  • Evaluates current procedures in speech and language assessment and treatment and recommends changes, including professional competencies.
  • Works collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines.
  • Conducts clinical teaching with medical students and undergraduate/graduate students from various colleges/universities.
  • Provides education and in-services to hospital faculty and staff regarding speech and language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Identifies potential research projects.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of clinical research and data collection activities.
  • Assists in locating resources for conducting research.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and 5 years of clinical experience in Speech Pathology in a healthcare setting required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Sunday - Thursday full-time schedule
  • Weekend rotations and holidays strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Experience with Modified Barium Swallow Studies and Flexible Endoscopic Swallowing preferred
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) strongly preferred

  • Extensive knowledge in one or more clinical sub-specialty areas required
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills required
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build strong team-based relationships required
  • Leadership, flexibility and problem-solving abilities required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology upon hire required
  • New York State license in Speech-Language Pathology upon hire required
