- Performs individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy for persons in the thirteen-town area who apply for such services.
- Evaluates psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
- Serves as liaison with other service providers or community supports for the continuous improvement of services to patients.
- Maintains patient charts appropriately, including development of treatment plans with measurable goals.
- Attends and participates in interdisciplinary staff conferences.
- Assists patients and families in dealing with: acute psychiatric symptoms, assessing needed clinical interventions, encouraging use of and compliance with medication.
- Discusses patients' progress in therapy in weekly supervision sessions.
- Takes appropriate action when patients become suicidal, homicidal or psychotic.
- Refers patients for psychiatric evaluation when appropriate.
- Meets inservice, continuing education and supervision requirements for the Behavioral Health Services Department.
- Promotes the Mental Health Clinic Department's mission which is to provide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to individuals of all ages and families within a multi-disciplinary setting who present with a broad spectrum of acute and/or chronic emotional difficulties. The clinic staff will use a bio-psycho-social model of health care delivery in accordance with the hospital mission and philosophy.

- Remains flexible in work schedule in order to provide the most effective and efficient support for the department and the hospital.
- Demonstrates competency in utilizing resources to accommodate cultural needs of patients and customers such as dietary, religious and language needs.
- Demonstrates efforts to maintain and improve job specific competencies. Incorporates new knowledge into practice.
- Nonviolence Crisis Intervention Training.
- Meets physical and mental demands of position.
- Demonstrates good communication skills and ability to maintain positive relationships with physicians, patients of all ages including children, adolescents, adults, families, and other hospital personnel.
- Demonstrates strong organizational abilities.
- Superior verbal skills.
- Good interviewing skills and knowledge of DSM-IV (TR) and psychopathology.
- Skilled in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents as individuals or in a group setting.
- Read scientific and technical journals, abstracts and financial reports.
- Write journals, speeches and manuals.
- Conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, and discussion and debate.
- Good understanding of Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics.
- Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Apprehend the most abstract classes of concepts.
