Cheshire House is a 75-bed, family-owned skilled nursing facility in Waterbury, Connecticut specializing in short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. We are currently hiring a Registered Nurse Supervisor. Come join our team!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clerical Duties

Empty rehabilitation out bins on each floor; twice daily on each unit

Distribute the information from these bins to appropriate therapist.

Copy, deliver, fax, and file paperwork as directed in a timely fashion. Morning paperwork attended to by 12:00 p.m. and afternoon paperwork by 4:00 p.m.

Attend to telephone service and deliver messages.

On Fridays, check to see that all files have adequate supply forms.

Housekeeping Duties

A.M.

Prepare mats with clean sheets and arrange pillows.

Noon

Wash down mats with proper disinfectant; prepare mats with clean linen.

P.M.

Wash down mats with proper disinfectant and change pillowcases.

Restock linen for the following day.

Straighten up wound care area including shelf and cabinet, drape sheet over whirlpool.

Wipe down and arrange walkers in corner, put away excess in hall closet.

Straighten weight cuff area including gait belts and canes.

Check Outpatient department for clean linen and supplies.

Straighten up counter next to hydrocollater, space should be free of clutter.

Straighten cabinets next to hydrocollater if necessary.

Hang up all hot-pack covers.

Arrange wheelchairs make sure they are clean.

Weekly

Take inventory of all supplies and leave for director

Restock when supplies are delivered. At times may need to pick up supplies from Central Supply.

Check supplies in Outpatient department.

Check water level in hydrocollater.

Straighten up hallway closets.

Monthly

Clean out hydrocollater, refill, and check temperature and initial Q.A. sheet when completed.

Culture whirlpool as instructed

Transportation Duties

Sometime before 9:00 a.m., check availability of portable O2 tanks for appropriate patients.

Patients should start to be brought to the gym by 9:00a.m.

If there are delays, rehab aide must communicate this to treating therapist ASAP by phone or in person.

When not transporting, rehab aide should do the following:

Clerical duties

Housekeeping in gym

Remain in gym to help with transfers or treatments. Offer assistance.

Please remember to communicate with therapist when you are leaving to perfom a task.

Patient Care/Treatment Duties

Assist with transfers or ambulation.

Assist with dressing/undressing as advised by P.T./O.T.

Assist with patient hygiene needs

Perform exercise program as instructed by P.T./O.T.

Participate in Restorative Program and document accordingly.

Set-up and clean up after assigned whirlpool treatments, following whirlpool protocols. Perform all duties surrounding whirlpool treatment including getting patient's in/out of whirlpool, setting up sterile field using sterile technique, maintaining whirlpool per proper cleaning protocols.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in office and therapy area (s)

Moves intermittently during working hours

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.

Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.

Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary, as well as in other positions as needed.

Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (eg, severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)

Must be constantly alert for resident safety.

Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.

Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, assaults from hostile residents, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B Viruses.

Is subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Is subject to lifting, carrying and supporting residents.

Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, other department, etc., to adequately plan for the resident's rehabilitation needs.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must have initiative to carry out assigned task with/without constant supervision.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents. Family members, visitor, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.

Must possess the ability to interpret the policies and procedures of rehabilitation.

Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of therapy areas.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and staff.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing therapy services.

Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.

Nurse's Assistant certificate preferred.

PHISICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Must be able to speak and write English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to cope with the mental, emotional, and physical stress of the position.

Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies.

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility, which include a medial and physical examination

Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 40 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight of a minimum distance of 4 feet.

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Must be willing to perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident's blood/body fluids.
