Job Title: Occupational Therapist – School-Based
Reports To: Director of Special Education / Building Principal
Job Summary:
The School-Based Occupational Therapist supports students’ academic success and participation by addressing fine motor, sensory, self-regulation, and daily living skills that impact learning and school performance. The therapist works collaboratively with educators, families, and related service providers to design and implement interventions that enable students to access the curriculum and school environment.
Responsibilities:
Assess students’ motor, sensory, and functional needs within the school setting.
Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Develop goals and objectives aligned with students’ educational plans.
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to integrate strategies into classroom routines and activities.
Adapt materials, tools, and environments to support student participation and independence.
Document evaluations, progress reports, and service delivery in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
Participate in IEP team meetings and contribute expertise regarding student needs and supports.
Provide training and consultation to staff and families on strategies that promote student success.
Maintain compliance with professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
Current Massachusetts licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
NBCOT certification preferred.
Experience working with children and youth in educational settings preferred.
Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
