OT Jobs in Arkansas
An Occupational Therapist (OT) plays a crucial role in the therapy industry by helping individuals of all ages to regain, develop, or maintain the skills they need to perform daily tasks, after being affected by physical, mental or emotional challenges. This includes working with children with disabilities to participate in school and social situations, helping people recover from injury, or providing support for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes. OTs develop treatment plans and therapeutic interventions tailored to their client's individual needs and goals, enabling them to live independently and enjoy a better quality of life.
Important skills for an OT include strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, creativity, and a deep understanding of the physical and psychological aspects of illness and injury. They should have a master's or doctoral degree in occupational therapy, and be licensed to practice, which involves passing the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. Prior to becoming an OT, a person may work as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), a physical therapy aide, or a rehabilitation aide.
