Job Description

OrthoVirginia, Virginia's largest provider of expert orthopedic and therapy care, is currently seeking to hire a part time Occupational Therapist to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA!  

The Occupational Therapist will provide evaluation and treatment services to a variety of patients in accordance with the physician referral and Plan of Care, focusing on the hand and upper extremity.  They effectively treat and rehabilitate the patient through post-operative rehabilitation, preventative, non-operative or conservative treatment or industry consultation. The therapist works closely with the physician and patient to provide a continuum of care. They direct patient participation in activities and exercise programs to restore, reinforce and enhance performance.


Primary Functions & Accountabilities

  • Evaluate and manage a wide variety of upper extremity conditions and procedures
  • Consult with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms
  • Diagnose movement dysfunction and develops a treatment plan
  • Teach patients how to properly use therapeutic exercise techniques
  • Assist patients with the use of equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers
  • Maintain patient records and documents goals and progress
  • Schedule patients effectively for best time utilization
  • Interpret and organizes evaluation and assessment data
  • Utilize knowledge of patient’s diagnosis, signs, and symptoms presented and results of diagnostic studies to determine the patient’s level of function
  • Set priorities and establishes realistic short-term goals and long-term outcomes
  • Document and maintains a plan of care for each patient which includes specific physical therapy orders in coordination with the medical plan of care
  • Communicates the plan of care in formal and informal communication


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide instructions clearly and pay close attention to detail
  • Must be able to collaborate with other patient care team members
  • Ability to remain encouraging and motivating to patients who experience pain and frustration, physical therapists should be compassionate and encouraging
  • Ability to remain flexible, adaptable and calm in unexpected situations
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in stressful circumstances


Required Licensure & Certifications 

  • Current Physical Occupational Therapist license
  • Current CPR, BLS or ACLS


Position Requirements

  • 3+ years in outpatient care with Medicare experience
  • Orthopedic practice experience preferred
  • BS in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy from an accredited school
  • MS in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy preferred
  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position
