Speech Therapist

Location: Site Level School

Reports To: School Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: Per WBR Salary Schedule

Terms of Employment: 9 Months

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Provides assessment and remediation services to students with speech impairments within the school setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans effectively for therapeutic intervention, including selecting appropriate materials and identifying individual student differences .
  • Consults with teacher(s) and parent(s) to develop appropriate goals and objectives for identified students
  • Participates in and develops Individual Education Plans- IEP or Service Plans.
  • Schedules and holds IEP meetings.
  • Maintains an environment conducive to therapeutic intervention, including organizing available space, materials, and/or equipment to facilitate therapy.
  • Takes appropriate precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Manages routines and transitions in a timely manner.
  • Manages allotted time and maximizes the amount of time available for each therapy session
  • Bills Medicaid for the delivery of speech language therapy services.
  • Maintains documentation of IEP and RTI services utilizing district mandated documentation system (EIS).
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records.
  • Establishes expectations for learner behavior.
  • Administers and interprets the results of appropriate tests based on student need.
  • Manages learner behavior to provide productive therapeutic intervention.
  • Serves as a member of the Pupil Appraisal Team for students requiring speech language assessment, when needed.
  • Implements a program of appropriate goals and objectives for Special Education students with speech language impairments.
  • Conducts speech-language screenings, provides and progress monitors appropriate speech/language interventions as part of the school Student Assistance team.
  • Presents appropriate content through therapeutic intervention.
  • Utilizes knowledge of clinical methodology and child growth and development and employs a variety of methods and techniques.
  • Provides opportunities for student involvement in the therapeutic process.
  • Integrates technology into therapy when appropriate.
  • Presents content at a developmentally appropriate level.
  • Assesses and measures student growth using established goals and objectives.
  • Informs students and/or parents of student progress.
  • Produces evidence of student progress under his/her instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a licensed speech pathologist/therapist who holds a current, valid, full (not temporary or provisional) Louisiana license with the Louisiana Board of Examiners to serve as a speech pathologist/therapist is considered certified by BESE.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Medium: Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
