POSITION TITLE: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST or SLPA

(under supervision of SLP) REPORTS TO: Building Level Principals (and/or other designated building administrators)

JOB GOAL: The speech and language pathologist will address any communication needs identified and provide speech/language services to identified students with speech and language delays in grades PreK-12.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct speech and language screenings for preschoolers ages 3-5, as requested or during community screening, students referred by parents or teachers, and students recommended for re-screening.

  2. Notify parents of screening results.

  3. Contact parents of children, who failed speech and language screenings, and obtain parental permission for more in-depth evaluation.

  4. Administer appropriate tests.

  5. Hold a case conference with parents and school personnel to discuss testing results, determine eligibility, IEP goals, and services needed.

  6. Provide therapy services according to students' IEPs.

  7. Conduct scheduled progress/annual case reviews, as indicated in the student's IEP.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree or higher and the required Indiana licensure/certificate for the assigned position. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, peers and adults. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from administrators, faculty, students, or parents. Ability to effectively present information to students, peers, principals and assistant principals, public groups, and/or members of the community as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS: Ability to perform keyboarding, document formatting, word processing, and other technology skills appropriate to the functions of this job. Ability to communicate with people in a positive and constructive manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
