Selection Criteria
SC1 Demonstrated experience in implementing small-group, targeted interventions including phonics instruction within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
SC2 Ability to collaborate with educators to support the design of learning adjustments that reduce barriers and provide access to learning for all students, Year Levels 5- 12.
SC3 Experience in providing guidance to educators on effective strategies for supporting students to access learning and supporting educators with professional development and support to implement those strategies.
SC4 High level organisational, written and verbal communication skills, including completion of supporting documentation for Disability Inclusion (DI) Profiles.
SC5 Ability to work positively and effectively with staff, students, parents/carers and external providers.
SC6 Demonstrated commitment to using and promoting inclusive practice in a primary and secondary school setting.
Role
Greenvale SC and Keelonith PS present a unique opportunity for an innovative and passionate Speech Therapist to join our teams as we seek to build an ongoing alliance between our learning communities. The position will see you working 0.6 at Greenvale SC and 0.4 at Keelonith PS, playing a key role in the collaboration between two newly opened schools seeking to work in partnership to establish best practice teaching and learning in Greenvale.
Greenvale SC
Greenvale SC currently enrols students up to year 10 and continues to develop our Student Services Team which includes Allied Health Professionals. The Speech Therapist role would be a new addition to the team and would support the College Leadership Team in developing and embedding a model of best practice that ensures our MTSS framework supports all students.
As a beginning focus, the role will focus on Tier 1 and 2. The role will work with both Inclusion Support Staff and Teaching Teams who already partner together to modify curriculum and learning resources, but this role will seek to extend that work and ensure consistency of practice that ensures accessibility to learning for all students. The role will attend planning sessions and meetings as related to the role.
Further, the role may also conduct 1:1 speech and language assessments for students referred for additional investigation as required.
Keelonith PS
Keelonith PS has an established team of Speech Therapists who have been instrumental in supporting the development of our inclusive teaching practice since we opened in 2021. At KPS we seek to minimise barriers and increase accessibility to learning by working within the MTSS framework, providing strong Tier 1 instruction and using universal screening assessments to identify students who would benefit from Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.
Impacting Tier 1, our Speech team work alongside our teaching teams supporting them with creating visually supportive teaching content and learning tasks. They attend our collaborative team planning sessions for half an hour each week, providing a direct link to the planning process and professional conversations in a team around the learner approach.
The Speech Team at KPS is also a crucial element of our Literacy Response to Intervention program which sits within Tier 2 and 3 of the MTSS framework. After initial screening assessments, students are identified to receive additional exposure and repetition of teaching related to phonics in small groups, or 1:1 as necessary. Our Speech Therapists lead this intervention work within their cohorts and support our teachers and ES team members to reinforce the approaches used with the students involved throughout the week.
Additionally, our speech team conduct 1:1 speech and language assessments for students referred for additional investigation as required.
The successful applicants work will focus on the Upper Primary area at Keelonith PS during their 0.4 timeframe, collaborating with the speech team and working with the AP for Teaching and Learning in building the capacity of the teaching team to provide high quality, inclusive learning programs for all students.
