The Berlin-Boylston Regional School District is a small, high-achieving school district in Central Massachusetts. We have an opening for a Speech-Language Pathologist to become part of our collaborative team.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university. Possess and maintain valid certification with the Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Valid MA DESE licensure in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders (All Levels). Knowledge of Massachusetts and federal special education regulations. Background in test administration, interpretation, and educational implications. Experience working in an educational setting or other appropriate experience with school-aged child with speech, language, and communication disorders.

Duties:

To provide therapy, evaluation and language programs for students preschool-5th grade (exact assignment to be determined)

Reports to:Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Building Principal

Job Summary:A school-based speech-language pathologist (SLP) works with students to diagnose and treat speech, language, and communication disorders. Responsibilities include assessing students' speech and language abilities, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), providing direct therapy services, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support students' academic and social success. The SLP also monitors progress, maintains detailed records, and ensures compliance with educational standards and regulations.Required Skills:1.Establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with students, their families, colleagues and supervisors.2.Ability to apply common sense understanding and to communicate options and solutions when several variables exist.3.Communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to read, write, speak and understand English4.Exhibit compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including: HIPAA, FERPA; requirements; and state statutes and rules regarding SLP education, training, and scope of practice5.Operate specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders

Preferred Skills:1.Ability to teach specialized language methodologies, such as Orton Gillingham, Wilson strategies, Linda Mood Bell, etc.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Provide appropriate speech-language services at the elementary level, preschool-grade 5 (specific caseload to be determined)2.Evaluate referred students, administer, and interpret diagnostic testing, develop requiredreports, and present findings at Team meetings3.Provide intervention that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individualstudent and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process4.Employ a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment forstudents with disabilities, and that they provide services to other students as appropriate5.Maintain liaison with appropriate community agencies, administrators, teachers, and parents concerned with the students6.Plan and develop therapeutic intervention goals that are educationally relevant and will be used in students' educational programs7.Facilitate in-service education and professional development for staff members, as appropriate8.Supervise and monitor the job performance of any assigned speech and language assistants.9.Monitor program goals by teaching and supervising other professionals and paraprofessionals who are involved with the implementation of the intervention procedures10.Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals withsevere expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorderor progressive neurological disorders11.Provide consultation and/or direct services to address student needs, professional needs, and system needs in order for the system to achieve its goals and objectives.12.Complete documentation as required by federal, state, and local agencies. Activities mayinclude Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, Medicaid billing, reportwriting, and treatment plan/therapy log development.13.Actively engage in activities with students including play, bend, kneel, lift and sit at a child's level.14.Perform other school related duties at the discretion of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and School Principal.
