Other information: Job Summary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting comprehensive evaluation, designing and implementing speech/language pathology treatment modalities for children from birth through twenty-one years of age. Evaluates, plans, directs and treats all patients referred for speech/language pathology treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury; or facilitate age appropriate skills for children with neurodevelopmental delays and/or disorders. Knowledge and interest in treating a variety of diagnoses and disordering neurological disorders, Autism spectrum disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down's syndrome, sensory integration disorder/concerns, feeding and other delays and disorders as presented. Therapist will coordinate with a multidisciplinary team including speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists as well as pediatricians, nutritionists, local school districts and mental health specialists. Essential Functions Conducts pediatric evaluations including formal tests for articulation and language. Provides family education and recommends referrals as appropriate. Performs dysphasia evaluations utilizing clinical evaluation and modified barium swallow studies. Provides family education and recommends referrals as appropriate. Accurately charts progress notes in the medical records and documents discharges appropriately. Prescribes therapy to RNs, dietary, and MDs. Acts in facilitating communication on the unit among staff, MDs and other departments. Acts as a resource for healthcare providers, schools, and other agencies Provides community education classes as assigned. Assists with marketing of services as required. Attends and actively participates in all department, team and/or committee meetings Complies with SRH Safety and Infection Control policies and procedures. Utilizes proper body mechanics and personal protective equipment. Reports and/or resolves all safety issues/incidents in a timely manner. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee. Education Must be a graduate of an accredited school and hold a MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Experience/Training Previous experience working with pediatrics in a school or clinical setting desired. License/Certifications Must obtain active and unrestricted Speech Pathologist license or if completing a Clinical Fellowship Year, must hold an Interim Speech Language Pathologist License until Speech Language Pathologist license is obtained. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare provider BLS certification is required. Other Skills Must have appropriate skills and demonstrated ability to provide speech pathology care with a compassionate nature in treating pediatric patients. Must possess good written and verbal interpersonal communication skills and demonstrate knowledge of equipment including computer programs and augmentative communication. Experience swallowing evaluations is preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
