The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. Purpose of Position: The purpose of this position is to develop, promote and supervise after school, Saturday and summer Community Learning Center (CLC) programs for high school age participants in the La Follette HS Community. Recreation Specialist works full time managing CLC programs and initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervise a number of part-time, seasonal employees that work in MSCR programs throughout the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide supervision of high school programs, planning and implementing year-round academic enrichment, pre-collegiate and recreation activities for high school age youth, with particular attention to after school programs. Activities will beanized to serve youth attending LaFollette High School. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties will be required and assigned.

Design and implement after-school, evening and weekend enrichment programs at La Follette high school that will appeal to a diverse audience of high school aged students.

Recruits club leaders, extramural sport coaches and volunteers from within and outside of school staff. Provides staff training in the area of required record keeping, payroll.

Works with high school staff to schedule facilities for use by clubs and extramural sports.

Promotes clubs, extramural sports and MSCR high school initiatives to students and teachers within the school setting. Promotes these activities through a wide variety of media on a regular basis. Keeps school administration, students services and office staff informed about clubs, sport activities and initiatives.

Supports and trains High School students on job skills and youth work skills as part of the Leaders In Training Program.

Supports MMSD/MSCR Driver's Education Scholarship Program.

Develop, implement and promote MSCR High School Summer Activities.

Conducts club/extramural program visits to monitor program effectiveness, provide feedback to club leaders and coaches, assist in trouble shooting and finding solutions to concerns.

Arranges participant transportation as required for programs.

Establishes a physically and emotionally safe program environment. Ensurespliance with MMSD standards. Ensurespliance with MSCR participant code of conduct.

Serves as a liaison between MSCR staff and school personnel. Meets regularly with MSCR Supervisor of Middle and High School Programs and high school staff, including athletic directors, principals and student services.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with club and extramural leaders, participants, parents,munity members and school personnel.

Stay up to date with CLC expectations and reporting.

Tracks participation statistics, maintains necessary records, and develops and submits required reports. Monitor enrollment & registration of students in MSCR programs.

Develop and implement program partnerships with localmunity basedanizations, other MSCR and MMSD Teams and departments to expand offerings.

Directly supervise daily after-school, summer, evening and weekend programs.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED, plus a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field and a minimum of two years' experience working in a recreational setting, preferably with youth sports programs, supervising staff and volunteers; or anybination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Ability tomunicate effectively with a diverse clientele and staff in a courteous and professional manner, both orally and in writing.

Excellentanizational skills.

Experience working cross-culturally and/ormitment to work toward improving one's own culturalpetence, i.e. valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work under generally safe andfortable conditions w exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary forpleting general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:

Work requires travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.

Flexible work schedule may include working Monday through Friday, with flexible work hours between the hours of 9am and 6pm, some evenings and weekends as assigned by supervisor or dictated by program needs.
