The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) performs a variety of duties under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The emphasis is on providing services to students with speech and language needs as determined appropriate by the SLP and within the scope of the license for an SLPA. Experience with elementary aged to high school age students is preferred. Experience with speech sound disorders, social skills and AAC is also preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The SLPA will support our Speech/Language Pathologists in treatment of students with speech, language, and communication disordersConduct speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.Plan and implement therapeutic activities and exercises designed to improve speech sound production and communication skills based on the students individualized education program (IEP)Document student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IEP or treatment plan, and report this information to the supervising SLP. Prepare charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data. Assist the SLP with documentation during an intervention session (collecting therapy data as directed by the SLP), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified by the SLP.Assist the SLP in collecting therapy data for assessment purposes, without interpretation.Schedule service deliveryPerform checks and maintenance of equipment.Sign and initial treatment notes for review and co-signature by the supervising SLP. Provide instructional support within the classroom to students as directed by the SLP.Identify and describe clinically relevant student behaviors to the supervising SLP. Use cues and prompts with the student as defined in the treatment protocol prescribed by the SLP.Provide behavioral reinforcement consistent with the students developmental age, cultural preferences, and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.Review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP weekly. Prepare age-appropriate and culturally sensitive treatment materials appropriate to the students developmental age and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.Plan and consult with the supervising SLPs. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.Assist with daily living skills for assigned students. Completes Medicaid, progress reports, IEPs, screenings, justification for equipment documentation under the supervision of the SLP. Other related duties as requested by the supervisorAssociates degree from a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant ProgramCurrent and valid state licensure/certification in Massachusetts is required Experience with Augmentative and Alternative communication and assistive technologies desiredMust be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
