POSITION SUMMARY:

SLPA works under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist to provide direct assistance in selected areas, collect data, and may provide individual or group services as directed by the Speech/Language Pathologist.

This is a 3 day a week position at 8 hours per day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Requires an Associate Degree from an accredited Speech Language Pathology Program or a Bachelor's degree with adequate practicum experience to secure Board Certification.
  2. Experience working with handicapped students.
  3. Ability to perform the essential functions with the physical, mental and emotional requirements, with or without accommodations.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality in performing assigned tasks.
  5. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.
  6. Such alternatives to the qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  7. Ability to obtain valid CPR/First Aid Card

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct speech and language screenings without interpretation> utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising speech/language pathologist.
  2. Provide direct assistance, excluding dysphasia (as opposed to feeding for nutritional purposes), to students identified by the supervising SLP by following written plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
  3. Document student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the plan, and report this information to the supervising speech/language pathologist.
  4. Assist the speech/language pathologist in collecting and tallying of data for assessment purposes, without interpretation.
  5. Act as a second language interpreter during assessments,
  6. Assist the speech/language pathologist with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting and tallying data as directed by the speech/language pathologist), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising speech/language pathologist.
  7. Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data.
  8. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
  9. Participate with the speech/language pathologist in research proj ects, in-service training, and public relations programs.
  10. Sign and initial service notes for review and cosignatory by the supervising speech/language

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of people.

2. Ability to function where there may be pressure and in an atmosphere, which may be stressful.

3. Ability to stand, walk, or sit on floor while working with students.

4. Ability to make frequent trips from one's location to other classrooms as well as other sites throughout the district.

5. Regular attendance at work and work activities is required.
